5 Ways to help kids have healthy teeth
Parents and guardians play a big role in shaping a child’s oral health. Start today to help your child keep a healthy smile as they grow!

1. Lead by example
Children learn by watching you. Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. Floss daily.
Tip: Brush together as a family. Sing or hum a two-minute song while you brush.
2. Provide a tooth-friendly diet
A healthy diet helps teeth and gums stay strong. Make healthy meals with dairy and leafy greens. Offer water instead of sugary drinks.
Tip: Let kids help make meals. Use cookie cutters to make food into fun shapes.
3. Take your child to the dentist
Dental checkups twice a year prevent problems before they start. Take your child by age 1 or within six months of their first tooth.
Tip: Make dental visits a special day. To keep things positive, plan fun activities before and after the appointment.
4. Discourage bad habits
Help your child stop thumb-sucking and pacifier use early. Use rewards and comforting alternatives.
Tip: Offer a favorite stuffed toy or an extra bedtime story as a reward.
5. Teach oral health early
Teach your child about oral health as soon as their first tooth comes in.
Tip: Use books, videos, stories, or games to make learning about teeth fun.
