Maintain healthy habits

Brush and floss daily: Make sure to brush twice a day and floss your teeth every day. This helps stop plaque buildup, which can lead to gum problems during pregnancy.

Eat a balanced diet: Eating well helps your baby’s teeth grow healthy and strong. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and dairy products during pregnancy.

Look out for these signs

Sensitive teeth: Morning sickness can make your mouth more acidic. This can lead to tooth decay, which might make your teeth hurt or feel sensitive. Rinse your mouth with a teaspoon of baking soda mixed with water to wash away excess acids. Let your dentist know about any pain or sensitivity.

Swollen gums: Pregnancy can cause gums to become red and swollen. If your gums stay swollen, this could be pregnancy gingivitis. Keep brushing and flossing. Schedule an appointment with the dentist for help.

Growths on the gums: Pregnancy tumors are growths of tissue that can form on the gums during pregnancy. These growths are not cancer, and they usually go away after your baby arrives. Schedule a visit with your dentist if you have concerns.

Keep going to the dentist twice a year

Let your dentist know as soon as you’re pregnant so they can plan care based on your needs. It’s best to get your dental cleanings and treatments done before your baby is born.

Your dentist can also give you tips to keep your teeth and your baby’s teeth healthy.
